Cisneros and her fellow defendants — nonprofit director Jim Schermbeck, Justice for Joppa Co-Chair Emmanuel Davis, environmental justice advocate Allen McGill and retired attorney Ruth Alhilali — were found guilty and fined $97 for the street-blocking stunt. The organizers each maintained that the Earth Day protest had been planned “for months” alongside the Dallas Police Department, and each individual who took the stand claimed the step into the road had been approved by a liaison for the department.
