Victor Wembanyama shrugged off boos from Philadelphia fans as the Sixers defeated the Spurs. Joel Embiid was ejected after picking up two technical fouls.
Victor Wembanyama stated he wasn't bothered by Philadelphia fans booing him every time he touched the ball for most of the Sixers' 111-106 win over the Spurs on Monday night. 'I've seen much, much worse, so this is nothing,' the Spurs star said, referring to his days playing as a professional in France. What was something was a wild second quarter that saw Joel Embiid get ejected for picking up two technical fouls and Wembanyama getting embroiled in a flopping dispute.
With 8:13 left in the period, referee Jenna Schroeder ejected Andre Drummond for arguing an apparent charging foul he committed against Wembanyama. But after a video review, the officials rescinded the ejection and, instead, called an unsportsmanlike flop technical against Wembanyama. 'He just stepped on my foot…I just got tripped,' Wembanyama said. 'I didn’t mean to fall. I didn’t expect the foul to even be called. I just fell.' Crew chief Curtis Blair backed up Wembanyama's explanation in a pool report after the game. 'After review it was determined that Drummond stepped on Wembanyama’s foot, and it was deemed incidental contact....Wemby tripped over Drummond's foot,' Blair said. Wembanyama was also involved in the play that led to Embiid's ejection. After the seven-time All-Star got whistled for a charge against Wembanyama, he picked up his first technical for disputing the call with Schroeder. She hit him with another tech after he became enraged and slammed his protective face mask to the court. Embiid exited with nine points in 14 minutes after torching the Spurs for a franchise-record 70-points in a Philadelphia win last January at the Wells Fargo Center. After those dust-ups with the officials, the rest of the game was a tight affair that Philadelphia pulled out in the end after Tyrese Maxey nailed a pull-up 3-pointer contested by Jeremy Sochan with 30.5 seconds left to give the Sixers a 107-103 lead. Maxey led Philadelphia (10-17) with 32 point
