With international hoops icons and longtime NBA rivals Tony Parker and Dirk Nowitzki agonizing together courtside in Bercy Arena , Victor Wembanyama overcame an ice-cold shooting performance to help lead France to a 73-69 win over Germany in Thursday’s semifinal at the Paris Olympics . France 's victory sets up a likely finals matchup with the United States , which will face Serbia at 3 p.m. in Thursday's other semifinal.

With 37 seconds remaining in the first half, Wembanyama fended off German center Daniel Theis and hammered a two-handed dunk over the big man to tie the game for the first time at 33-33.

Guerschon Yabusele led France with 17 points and Cordinier added 16. Schroder led all scorer with 18 points, while Wagner and Theis nearly recorded a double-double. Overall, Germany shot just 40% from the field and 29% from deep while turning it over 15 times.
