The Welsh Government says it will make a formal request to “devolve powers related to gender recognition”
The Welsh Government’s plan was launched on Tuesday by two of the most senior gay politicians in Wales, Labour’s social partnership minister Hannah Blythyn and Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price, whose party has a co-operation deal with the Labour minority government in Wales.
Mr Price said: “The fact that this plan has been jointly developed by parties whose members make up two-thirds of our national parliament provides a strong basis on which to bring the plan’s commitments to life as practical actions on the ground in our communities. The Welsh Government’s plan does not specify what form any gender recognition reform would take in Wales, amid splits within Labour on the issue.of supporting gender recognition reform after whipping his MPs to abstain in a symbolic vote on the decision to block Scotland’s reforms.about lowering the minimum age of recognition to 16. Labour’s manifesto previously pledged to support gender recognition reform, while Scottish Labour explicitly supported gender recognition at 16.
She said: “It is encouraging to see the Welsh Government’s commitment to reforming the law to allow trans people the right to legal recognition of their gender, without having to jump over outdated medical and administrative hurdles.
