Four officers will be fully devoted to York Hospital and nearby WellSpan locations.

Victoria Diamond, the president of York Hospital, called it a “proactive or preemptive” measure, rather than a response to specific incidents. However, she cited a national increase in violent incidents at hospitals, saying “this is an attempt to not get to those situations.” “We believe this on-site presence will increase our opportunities to interact and build relationships with York citizens by providing an immediate point of contact for anyone at the hospital needing police services,” Muldrow said.

Recent years have seen a sharp increase in aggressive behavior toward health care workers including those working in hospitals. Health care is now considered among the most dangerous private work settings for employees. while also increasing training in deescalation tactics to avoid unnecessary use of force on patients.
