The event — held at the new facility located in Oxford’s West Industrial Park, drew a crowd of employees, elected officials and community leaders like Oxford Mayor Alton Craft, who praised the company’s legacy and its commitment to family and resilience. “This is a big day for Oxford and a big day for Wellborn Cabinet,” Craft said. “What I always tell my folks is that a person that wins is called a winner. A person that wins after they have adversity, is a champion. And that's what y'all want, a champion company that needs to be in Alabama, and that's why I'm so proud that y'all are here.” First Haven Cabinetry, located on a 60-acre site, currently occupies 250,000 square feet and has the capacity to produce 1,000 cabinets per day. With future investments in equipment, the facility could double its output to 2,000 cabinets daily, according to CEO Johnny Simpson. “This facility is designed for growth,” Simpson said. “We have 22 dock doors and an assembly line that feeds directly into 53-foot trailers — none of the product touches the floor. It’s efficient, sustainable and built for scale.” Currently employing 83 team members, First Haven expects to grow its workforce to over 400 as production ramps up. Simpson emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, noting that 90 percent of waste is recycled and 99 percent of components are domestically sourced. The facility’s opening comes on the heels of new federal tariffs on imported cabinetry, which Simpson said will bolster domestic manufacturing. “This action helps ensure that facilities like ours reach their full potential,” he said. Founder Paul Wellborn reflected on the company’s journey, from its humble beginnings in the 1960s to its recovery after a devastating fire. “What makes the struggles easier is having good people around you,” Wellborn said. “We thank God for the people who made this company what it is.” The First Haven project was made possible through partnerships with local contractors, chambers of commerce, and state officials. John Wellborn, speaking on behalf of the family, credited the teamwork and dedication that transformed a green field into a thriving hub for Alabama manufacturing. “This is about making Alabama stronger through jobs and opportunity,” he said. “And it’s about building a future for our families.”
