In the last 101 big-league games in which a team gave up no hits, do you know how many runs those 101 teams gave up? That would be six — in all 101 of those games combined! But somehow, those Trash Pandas gave up seven? Unbelievable.Six runs in 101 games. So what were the odds that your team would throw a no-hitter and give up more runs than that in one inning?If anyone can do it, we’re gonna do it. We’re gonna go for it.
Just because they found a bizarre way to lose a no-hitter, don’t assume the Trash Pandas are some kind of laughing stock. They’re a prospect-loaded, Double-A affiliate of theZach Neto, whom Keith Law ranked as, is their shortstop. And Ben Joyce, the pitcher who gave up five of those seven runs in that inning, threw a pitch at 105 mph last year. He’s Keith’s No. 19 prospect in their system.
So you know what Trash Panda life has been like since that no-hitter? Just baseball as usual — except for the part where people like me track them down.I know you never want to do this. But if all publicity is good publicity, what could you possibly have done to put the Trash Pandas on the map more than you did in this game?First of all, the team’s name is the Trash Pandas.
