ANCHORAGE, Alaska - April will be sending a little sunshine into parts of the state over the weekend.

A ridge of high pressure will continue to promote sunshine and warm temperatures from Interior to Southcentral and Southeast Alaska. Fairbanks did hit the 60-degree mark on Friday and is expecting the same for Saturday. Many Interior residents will also get to peel off some of the clothing layers as the sun warms things up.

However, a trough of low pressure will continue to bring rain to Kodiak Island, where more than 6 inches of rain has fallen on the city of Kodiak over the week. This has led to a landslide and officials urging residents to be vigilant around flooding creeks and streams. An advisory is in place through 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

In the northwest, a winter weather advisory will kick in for the Bering Strait on Saturday at 7 a.m. and will last through 10 p.m. Sunday. Snow and blowing snow are likely, with wind gusts up to 55 mph. Friday’s hot spot was Klawock at 68 degrees, while the cold spot was Savoonga, where temperatures dropped to 4 degrees.Fire investigation at former Midtown Anchorage restaurant
