WALNUT CREEK — A 16-year-old girl died Saturday and four other people were hospitalized in a head-on crash, police said.Authorities identified the girl as Alina Safi, adding that she drove one of the vehicles.
The crash happened about 4:40 p.m. on Ygnacio Valley Road, just east of Oak Grove Road, according to a statement from Walnut Creek police released on Wednesday. The road is a major bypass commute road connecting central and eastern Contra Costa County.Police said four other people involved in the crash were hospitalized, one of them a person under 18 years old who was flown to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Police did not have an update on any of those four, nor did they say how many people were in each car.A citizen who was at the scene took a dog involved in the crash to a veterinary hospital, police said.
