Smithson Valley’s Chase Senelick celebrates with teammates after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game against Reagan during the Pigskin Classic at the Alamodome on Aug. 27, 2022.SAN ANTONIO — Smithson Valley has had no problems competing in arguably the San Antonio area’s toughest Class 5A district.Smithson Valley shares the district with No. 3 New Braunfels Canyon and No. 4 Seguin.

Smithson Valley formerly shared a district with area 6A stalwarts Steele and Judson before dropping to Class 5A as the opening of Pieper and Davenport in Comal ISD shifted enrollments. On Oct. 12, the UIL state executive committee ruled 11 freshman football players who transferred to San Marcos ineligible to compete in varsity athletics at that school for three years.
