Westerville South 30, Westerville Central 7
The Wildcats beat Central 30-7 on Aug. 26 in the first matchup between the programs since 2019, with a ground attack featuring Nasir Phillips and Ethan Hanna helping christen their renovated field. The first big play for South came when quarterback Dominic Birtha connected with Jalen Wheeler for a 51-yard pass to close the first quarter. Phillips ran for a 6-yard touchdown two plays later to give the Wildcats a 10-0 lead.
Warhawks quarterback Jaystin Gwinn connected with Cullen Hronek for passes of 14 and 20 yards during the possession and scrambled for 15 yards, setting up his 19-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Harris with 7:58 left in the third quarter.A 52-yard run by Phillips with 1:20 left in the third quarter set up Hanna’s 9-yard scoring run two plays later as South extended its lead to 23-7.
