Roland Povall slashed the boy with the handle of broken mug
A day of joy turned into a "terrifying and shameful episode" when a wedding guest drunkenly attacked his girlfriend and cut a teenager's face with a broken mug.
On Tuesday , Preston Crown Court heard Povall and his then girlfriend attended a wedding at Briars Hall, Lathom, in April this year. The day had been happy until violence erupted after they had returned to their hotel rooms.Prosecuting, Gerald Baxter said: "At 11pm, was in the room with his brother. The defendant and were in the next room having a petty argument and he went in to ask them to stop arguing. Shortly after, he heard banging and believed she was in danger.
As this happened, Povall's partner tried to step into the middle of the pair and was punched in the face, causing a black eye. A bridesmaid who was staying in the neighbouring room had heard the initial noise and come out to ask them to be quiet as her children were sleeping. Defending, Richard English said there was little mitigation other than the guilty pleas. He said his client had experienced a difficult childhood as he witnessed his own dad assault his mum on a regular basis and was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after the tragic and sudden death of his baby son.
