The Weber County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) announced that one of its deputies, Zachary Anderson, has been placed on administrative leave following a domestic violence investigation. The WCSO received notification of Anderson's arrest on January 17, 2023, by the Sunset Police Department. Anderson was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence assault and intoxication on January 16, 2023, while off duty. He was subsequently placed on administrative leave the following morning.
The WCSO stated that due to the ongoing internal investigation and pending judicial process, no further information would be released at this time.According to court documents, Zachary Andrew Anderson, 38 years old, was arrested on suspicion of intoxication and assault on January 16th at a residence in Sunset. The arresting officer with the Sunset Police Department stated that Anderson and the victim were involved in a verbal argument during which Anderson allegedly used unlawful force against the victim by striking her face with the back of his hand. This action reportedly left an obvious red mark on her face. The officer's probable cause affidavit also mentioned that Anderson had been drinking alcohol and emitted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Anderson was booked into the Davis County Jail on suspicion of a Class B misdemeanor assault and a Class C misdemeanor intoxication charge. As of the publication of this report, no formal charges have been filed against Anderson. The details surrounding the incident remain under investigation by both the Sunset Police Department and the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
