Temperatures expected to fall below freezing overnight, and some areas may stay below freezing for a while.

Low temperatures fell quickly in Alabama on Sunday after a cold front passed through. Above are the forecast lows for Sunday night into Monday morning.The long-awaited arctic blast has made it to Alabama, and it could make for some very hazardous roadways overnight into Monday.

In fact the National Weather Service was warning those in northern Alabama to avoid traveling if possible, and a new⚠️A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 AM for all of N AL and southern middle TN for freezing drizzle causing a glaze on elevated surfaces and black ice on roads. In addition, there is light snowfall ongoing over NE AL but little accumulation is expected.The new winter weather advisory includes the following counties: Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman.The weather service in Huntsville was additionally concerned about the possibility of freezing fog in parts of north Alabama that could only make things even more icy. ⚠️Heads up! Observations are showing lower visibilities and, with the colder air filtering into the region, freezing fog may become a concern. Black ice will already be a concern with lingering water freezing on roads tonight, but freezing fog would make this worse. Special Weather Statement for Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion... till 6:00 AM CST“Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight across all of central Alabama with residual moisture on local roadways. This will lead to the possibility of hazardous travel in some areas. Black ice may create slick spots on some local roads ... bridges and overpasses.
