A wintry blast striking this weekend could reach -2C, bringing frost and a chance of snow.

Scotland could be hit with plunging temperatures and a chance of snow due to a north-south weather divide splitting the UK.

The cold blast this weekend may feel more like winter than autumn as Met Office experts say overnight temperatures could drop as low as -4C and snow could fall on higher ground on Sunday morning. When the weather divide clears, the front of cold air means it will be "quite a lot chillier" across the UK as we head into the weekend. As reported by the Mirror, highs will only reach 9 to 14C and Saturday night could be as cold as -4C.

He continued: "As we head towards the weekend, Friday looks like quite a wet day for some, this front system returning from the South before clearing southwards as we get into Saturday and as it does we will open the door to some colder air across all parts of the UK. So it does look like turning quite a lot chillier as we head through the weekend, 9 to 14C and at night there's the chance we'll see some ground frost.
