On the cover, we featured a so-called merch monster styled by costume designer Miyako Bellizzi in hats, masks, scarves, and totes from dozens of city spots . All of which may have distracted you from our ever-so-slightly-altered New York magazine logo.
“As we thought about the phenomenon of people wearing local merch, and the special pride of being a New Yorker, we inevitably went to the classic New York accent — something we hope never dies out,” says editor-at-large Stella Bugbee, who wrote last month’s cover story. “In our research, we found vintage souvenirs with ‘New Yawk’ spelled out over the iconic 1980s skyline. That gave us the idea to make a special issue that altered our own logo.
