“The journey so far has been such an adventure and we’re not ready for it to end”
A couple have swapped hospital wards for a life on the road spending just £1,000 a month travelling the world in a campervan.
The pair were renting a house in Mansfield, Derbyshire, where Phil was helping Covid patients in intensive care at King’s Mill hospital. They ended their tenancy shortly before hitting the road in June this year and started their journey in France before travelling through Europe to North Africa. Sarah told PA Real Life: “There’s just a combination of the spontaneity of it and the fact that there are a lot of unexpected things that can happen that has made this trip so memorable.
“Converting vans became really popular during lockdown and we were quite lucky in that we bought ours just before the first lockdown came into effect so we got our van for a cheap price. Phil said: “Everyone said that we should hire a van for a week to see if we could get on with each other in such a small space, but we didn’t do that, so our first trip was the start of our gap year. It was make or break really.”Sarah said: “It was meant to take us four hours but it turned into a 10-hour hike that at one point was genuinely really dangerous.
