Jacksonville stunned the NFL world on Nov. 30, 1993, when it beat out favorites like St. Louis and Baltimore to land the Jaguars. The next momentous occasion, a $1.4 billion revamp of EverBank Stadium. That vote comes with a new lease agreement that keeps the Jaguars here for another 30 years.has already invested more than half a billion dollars in the city, from the Shipyards to property in Neptune Beach to a portion of the Miller Electric Center and previous stadium upgrades.
The deal still needs to be approved by NFL owners during meetings in mid-October, but that is expected to pass without issue. The city will contribute $775 million of the estimated price tag. The Jaguars will be responsible for cost overruns, a significant piece of the negotiations. Cost overruns with“We both approached this with the attitude of ‘we want what is best for each other and for the community,’” Deegan said. “And just like in any relationship, that’s a great recipe for success.
That news shocked local residents who had seen the stadium undergo massive upgrades over the years. Jacksonville unveiled the world’s largest in-stadium video boards during $63 million of upgrades in 2014 and $90 million worth of enhancements in 2016 that included Flex Field and Daily’s Place.
