is West End’s annual community festival that starts with a parade from Dornoch Terrace Bridge down Boundary Street.People came dressed in elaborate costumes, pushing floats and riding homemade carts of varying obscurity. There were dancers from local groups like West End Dance, Xango Capoeira, and Rio Rhythmics, a moving set from activist marching band Riff Raff, and drumming performances from Carnaval Republic and Baque Australis.

A key aspect of the 2023 derby was making the most of the laneways and hidden spaces around Boundary and Russell Street, which were closed off for the event. “We want to reclaim our streets for people to use just as much as activating uninhabited laneways to create awareness of how the public domain can be used to bring people together,” Downes said.
