Herbert’s classic Dune compilation has an array of fantastical ideas, and Denis Villeneuve has yet to feature one of Dune’s weirdest creatures.

Denis Villeneuve's interpretation of the sci-fi world found in Frank Herbert's classic epic, now set to include his 2023 sequel Dune: Part Two, has yet to convey the weirdest creatures of the mythological universe. Villeneuve's two-part Dune project follows numerous attempts and fulfilled enterprises that sought to take the best-selling story of Paul Atreides to the big screen or other mediums.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The theatrical medium's capacity and the narrative's ambition causes Dune interpreters to split up or pick out significant moments and characters in the novel to capture its essence on-screen coherently – Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two are, consequently, no different. Villeneuve's first-ever sequel in Part Two is a result of such an undertaking.

To maintain prescience to travel safely across space, the Guild Navigators are housed in massive tanks filled with highly-concentrated levels of the Arakeen spice drug. The exposure to spice, especially across long periods, mutates the Navigators into fish-like humanoid life forms with elongated limbs and altered organs; the Dune canon describes them as growing finned feet and fanned membranous hands as well.

Why Dune Part 2 May Not Have Guild Navigators In Herbert's literature, Guild Navigators aren't fully established until the introduction of the Navigator called Edric in Dune Messiah, the second book of the lengthy series. Denis Villeneuve has prepared to cover no more than the first novel in Herbert's anthology, and Dune: Part Two reportedly will not attempt to traverse into the world of Dune Messiah at all.
