On Thursday, October 10, Tesla hosted their much anticipated We, Robot event where they unveiled their robotaxi. The event started fashionably late, over 40 minutes after the scheduled time, at Warner Brothers Studio in Los Angeles. Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla ’s Head of Design, introduces Elon who enters the Cybercab, Tesla ’s purpose built robotaxi designed with the company’s Cyber design language, which autonomously shuttles him to the event where the crowd excitedly awaits him.
Tesla made a lot of big promises including saying that unsupervised Full Self Driving would be rolling out to Model 3 and Model Y as early as next year in California and Texas. The Cybercab would follow with sales starting in 2026, although no details were shared about what areas it would operate. Today, Tesla has zero driverless miles on public roads and its safety record for autopilot and FSD is far from clean.
