We recommend in the GOP primary for Texas House District 33 | Opinion

Holland, who was first elected to this seat in 2016, is a real estate broker and a business owner in Rockwall County. He grew up in the city and served on the Heath City Council for five years before he began his legislative career in Austin. Holland, 37, currently serves as vice chair of the Sunset Advisory Commission, a term that is set to expire in 2025.
Holland did not fill out our candidate questionnaire, and we disagree with some of his policy choices. Last year, he co-authored a bill, signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott, that prohibits Texas from enforcing new federal gun control regulations. This editorial page supports the Second Amendment, but we question the wisdom of the state’s approach here.
Holland has also been a critic of GOP gubernatorial candidate and former state party chair Allen West, who has used his platform to stir discord inside the Republican Party. He spoke out when West took digs at Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan and state Sen. Drew Springer. We think this speaks to Holland’s inclination for more constructive conservative leadership.
