Flores, a patent attorney, brings broader public service experience, including leadership in forging educational reform during two stints on the Dallas ISD board. Flores chaired a committee that improved DISD’s employee hiring policies and was an early advocate of performance-based teacher evaluations, the latter being a major factor in improving the school district’s teaching corps.
Flores says he is running for county judge because incumbent Clay Jenkins, a Democrat, is “playing politics with the pandemic, rather than looking out for the well-being of Dallas County citizens.” He calls the county’s use of federal pandemic funds “a fiasco,” accusing the county of wasting money on a contact-tracing data system that is “grossly inadequate” for a county the size of Dallas County.
