Dallas Morning News EditorialIn this race, voters must choose between Justice Rebeca Huddle, the Republican incumbent, and Justice Amanda Reichek, a Democrat from the 5th District Court of Appeals in Dallas.
We think voters should send Huddle back. Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Huddle to the Texas Supreme Court in 2020. She replaced Justice Paul W. Green, who retired from the court that year. Huddle has a compelling personal story. She grew up in El Paso, where she was raised by a single mother, an immigrant with a fifth-grade education. Huddle went on to earn degrees from Stanford University and the University of Texas School of Law. But what makes her the better candidate is her professional track record. Huddle worked as a commercial attorney and litigated a range of cases including probate, bankruptcy, personal injury, and contract disputes and appeals. She was a justice on the 1st District Court of Appeals for six years and went back to private practice briefly before joining the Supreme Court. Huddle is a seasoned judge whose legal background is more diverse than her opponent’s.
