A local remote-controlled car racing group says it's doing Fresno City a favor by keeping homeless people out of the area where it races.Have you ever seen remote-controlled cars race on a dirt track?"The cars are as big as my hand, and we have events," he said. "They're pretty much based on NASCAR points and NASCAR builds.""This is kind of therapy, it's a family-oriented group," said Contreras .
Contreras says they have been out near Yale and Pleasant Avenue in Northwest Fresno for seven months now.But now the city said the race track has got to go. "What happened to 'you're going to give me a permit' and 'give me these corrections' to pull it all out?" said Contreras. "I even told them you're disturbing the veterans, the kids, the grandmas. Its devestating. A lot of guys, grown men, it hurts them."This is an attractive nuisance and it's built on a city easement. It should be removed. It's only a matter of time before a child plays on the dangerous terrain and is injured or seriously hurt.
Contreras said the race track is only being used after all the businesses around them close for the day. He said he's been contacting his local council member to see if he can help get him permits or a new location.Stay Connected
