'We need urgent action on Black mental health' by S_Fleary1

A HEALTH campaigner has warned that the crisis in Black mental health must urgently be addressed, including recognising the impact of racism.

Dr Rolston said: “We know that exposure to and experiences of racism, discrimination, inequalities and micro-aggressions together with a lack of cultural competence can negatively affect the general wellbeing and mental health of Black people.

The COVID-19 pandemic, disproportionately impacted the Black community, and with the rising disparate mental health detentions and restraints, Bayo is seeking to provide healing and joyful spaces for Black young people to seek solace and recovery in. Black communities need respite now more than ever in the form of culturally appropriate, therapeutic care.
