Momo Ayase horrified with jaw dropped Dandadan
Warning: Contains spoilers for Dandadan chapter #230.Dandadan is one of many manga that, for the past few years, people have argued is the best new-gen manga, and it’s easy to see why; with a combination of gorgeous artwork, creative action and character designs, and a fun cast of characters centered around a surprisingly engaging romance, Dandadan has been an incredible series from day one, and the tremendous success of the anime has only made it bigger.
Dandadan easily ranks among the best new-gen anime and manga, and in the grand scheme of things, that won’t be changing anytime soon. Whether the fans continue to like Dandadan is another story, however, as recent developments in the series have been met with such overwhelmingly negative reception from fans, they threaten to destroy the entire story’s reputation, and unfortunately, it’s easy to see why. Why Dandadan Fans Hate The Manga's New Arc At the end of Dandadan’s Danmara arc, Okarun finally told Momo that he loved her, but before Momo had time to say the same, she was suddenly shrunken down to a tiny size, with everyone slowly forgetting her existence, as well. Momo told Okarun to confess his feelings again once Momo was back to normal, so it seemed like there was finally a set time for Momo and Okarun’s romance arc to move forward. To the surprise of everyone, however, when Momo was brought back to normal size, she lost all of her memories of everything that had happened in the story, essentially resetting her relationship with Okarun to zero. Not only that, but following that, the series has also given Momo and Okarun romantic moments with Jiji and Aira, respectively, which is only poised to add more drama to a story that was praised for being free of it. Momo losing her memories was likely done to allow Okarun to be the more aggressive of the two and give a deeper exploration of how strong their bond is, and both of those points can be seen in the early stages of the arc when Momo and Okarun have another fight with the Serpoians. Unfortunately, most Dandadan fans just see it as little more than pointless padding, especially with how Jiji and Aira are potentially disrupting things, and many fans are already claiming that it’s ruined beyond repair. Will Dandadan Ever Fix Its Terrible Reputation? Thanks to senselessly padding out Momo and Okarun’s romance with a cliched amnesia plot and forcing Jiji and Aira’s one-sided romances back into the story, Dandadan’s reputation with fans has hit an all-time low, and in the wake of Chainsaw Man’s controversial ending reigniting discussions of good and bad ongoing manga, people have quickly taken to writing it off as a lost cause that people would be better off dropping. If Dandadan has any chance of restoring its reputation, then it either needs to end Momo’s amnesia arc as soon as possible or simply have an ending that’s so cathartic and all-around good that it makes up for everything that came before it. With how much is going on in the arc with Count Saint Germain and the Dandadan, it’s unlikely to end anytime soon, so the best bet is for people to hope that the arc will stick the landing. While the idea that a serialized story can only be properly judged when it’s over is often faulty logic, Dandadan has proven time and time again that it knows exactly what it’s doing with its story, so if any manga can give a good payoff for a seemingly unsalvageable story, it’s Dandadan.
