PCB’s reputation for its nightlife spans decades. Look at these nine clubs that shaped Panama City Beach’s popularity with vacation-goers.Opening in 1984, Club La Vela was known as the “World’s Largest Club.” The venue boasted nine themed rooms, dance floors, swimming pools, and bars. MTV propelled La Vela into the national spotlight, broadcasting their spring break parties.The Red Rooster, known as the “Kickin’ Chicken,” was famous in the 60s. Known for enthusiastic party-goers, the Kickin’ Chicken threw parties with people dancing all night.The Hangout was a popular dancehall in the 50s and 60s. Located at Long Beach Resort, its dancefloor was packed with those who wanted to party down. A regional dance craze started at the Hangout, the PC Bop.Spinnaker has been a popular hangout spot since 1972. Over the years, the club held concerts ranging from Green Day to Kenney Chesney. They also had a 70-foot zipline! While no longer a club, Spinnaker Beachside Grill is still a staple in the panhandle.The Old Dutch, located across from Red Rooster, was once PCB’s oldest nightclub. With its rustic roadhouse feel, the Old Dutch was a favorite for spring breakers. Many big-name performers, including a young Hank Williams Sr., took the stage to perform his hit Cold, Cold Heart, and other favorites.Less of a club and more of a cocktail lounge, Little Birmingham was still a popular hangout spot in the 50s and 60s. Located in West Panama City Beach, the bar offered a package store.The Treasure Ship was known for its three separate restaurants and unique souvenir gifts. They also had The Brig, a disco club with a colorized moving dance floor, making this spot a staple for families and partiers. Fire engulfed the Treasure Ship, owned by Dothan’s Nomberg family, in 2018. Boogie down.Opening in 1971, Breakers featured beachside entertainment. The house band Clutch played at Breakers for nearly 25 years, playing their final show in 2005. After surviving two hurricanes and a fire, the bar and restaurant closed in 2013.The Old Hickory restaurant and nightclub was popular with young rock and roll fans in the ‘60s. The Swinging Medallions were the house band and performed their signature hit Double Shot of My Baby’s Love. While the club started as a teen club, it became a staple for many spring breakers.
