It looks like a dry and sunny weekend.
) - Hurricane Helene is no longer a tropical system. The remnants are fizzling out over the Ohio Valley.
Helene ravaged the eastern part of the Florida Peninsula making landfall as a Category 4 hurricane last night. The system then tracked up through Georgia and into North Carolina and Tennessee, as well as Virginia, dumping tons of rain. We’ve seen widespread reports of damage and flooding including the closure of interstate 40 between Asheville and Knoxville. Rainfall totals exceeded 1 foot with some spots up to seeing up to 20 inches of rain due to rain in the higher terrain.
We continue to enjoy the drier air on the back side of Helene across our part of the Gulf Coast. Overnight lows tonight will be in the middle 60s and skies will be mostly clear. It looks like a dry and sunny weekend with highs in the upper 80s on both Saturday and Sunday. We’ll keep watching the tropics as another low pressure area could form in the western Caribbean see late next week and move into the Gulf.Copyright 2024 WALA. All rights reserved.
