'We are turning the corner' on load shedding: Ramokgopa
Electricity Minister Kgosietsho Ramokgopa says the trend is now lower electricity demand and fewer breakdowns"A significant improvement" will be achieved by the end of the year
At his weekly briefing on Monday, Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said he was convinced that the improvement in the performance of generation units was permanent and that Eskom's maintenance efforts were finally paying off. With the addition of three units from Kusile by the end of the year, SA's power supply picture will change significantly.We are not out of the woods, but we are turning the corner.
Outage slips – where a unit is returned to service but continues to trip – have also been reduced. The weakest point was now partial load losses – which is when a unit does not operate at full capacity – which had not yet shown significant improvement.
