Policicchio said police responded to the hotel shortly after 5 p.m. local time for an emergency call about an "aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol." One of the photos appeared to show a white powdery substance, as well as tin foil, a melted tea light candle, a lighter, and an empty soap box. The second photo shows what looked like a TV with a smashed screen.Payne had been open about his substance abuse issues. In 2023, he shared a video on YouTube in which he detailed his struggles and thanked fans for their support.Soon after Payne's death was made public, tributes began to pour in on social media.
Argentine media reported Payne was in Buenos Aires to visit one of his former One Direction bandmates, Niall Horan, who was performing in Argentina. "We are heartbroken by the sad passing of Liam Payne," The X Factor posted on social media. "He was immensely talented and, as part of One Direction, Liam will leave a lasting legacy on the music industry and fans around the world. Our thoughts are with his friends, family and all who loved him."
