A Cape security company is legally challenging the Western Cape Government’s (WCG) decision to award a multi-million rand tender to an enterprise associated with several state capture scandals:
The company lost a bid to an R282 million security contract that was awarded to Durban businessman Roy Moodley. As per the contract, his company, Royal Security, will provide security services for two years on immovable assets owned by WCG.reports that at least six rival bidders submitted prices lower than Royal Security’s offer of R282 million.
He says the government has a right to be treated as innocent until proven guilty. ‘We cannot be in a position where government tenders are being used to launder dirty money, but simultaneously we are a government that respects and promotes the rule of law.’ ‘Further to this, I have been informed that one of the losing bidders in a recent tender issued by the provincial government’s Department of Infrastructure will be challenging the decision in court.
