Since then, no Olympic games that have included all of the world’s best have been held, nor has another World Cup been played. The NHL and NHLPA have agreed to play at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, but, again, that is contingent on the league reaching a deal with the IIHF and IOC. IIHF President Luc Tardif said in January that he wants a resolution on NHL participation in the next Olympics by Spring 2024.
In the meantime, the newest generation of NHL stars, particularly North Americans, haven’t had the chance to compete for their respective countries on the biggest stages.
