No smartphone needed 📱 Waze TechNave

Waze is getting a standalone app for some car models. Before this, if you wanted to use the app in the car, you would have to connect your smartphone to the infotainment system. However, thanks to Google's embedded Android Automotive OS, drivers can now access the navigation app without connecting any external device.

At the moment, the standalone Waze app is only available on dedicated displays inside the new Renault Austral Hybrid and Renault Megane E-Tech electric vehicles in Europe. It offers the usual Waze alerts, navigation, and routing options. Of course, it won't be the last brand to provide the app, as General Motors, Chevrolet, and Volvo offer similar Google integration. Honda is also set to use to embedded Android system soon.

Waze has been actively looking for solutions to improve the in-car experience over recent years. Besides integrating more deeply with CarPlay and Apple Music, the platform has also brought fun '70s, '80s, and '90s themes for the appearance aspect. What do you think about the standalone Waze app?
