The sheriff's office held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to give an update:WATCH:It happened just before 11 a.m. in the 9000 block of Congress Road in Congress Township .
According to Chief Deputy Joseph Copenhaver, the sheriff and the deputy were responding to a call of a suspicious person walking down Congress Road. They approached him, and the suspect pulled out a knife and attacked, according to Copenhaver. The sheriff was taken to Wooster Community Hospital for a wound to the arm. The deputy, Sgt.
Dan Broome, was taken to Summa Health System — Akron Campus for a wound to the groin. After the attack, the suspect continued walking down Congress Road, and multiple law enforcement agencies put up a perimeter. He was spotted at a shed on a farm just before 1 p.m. The sheriff's office said that the suspect was taken into custody around 2 p.m. after being coaxed down from the roof of a shed by police negotiators. Possible charges have not been announced.
