Naomi Girma, Alex Morgan and Jaedyn Shaw will be part of US team as Julie Ertz, Megan Rapinoe play final matches
San Diego Wave defender Naomi Girma, forward Alex Morgan and midfielder Jaedyn Shaw will play for the U.S. Women’s National Team for two friendlies against South Africa, played later this month in Cincinnati and Chicago.
It’s the first call-up for Shaw, San Diego’s young star. The 18-year-old has scored five goals for the the Wave this season, one year after making her professional debut with the club.Girma and Morgan were both recently part of the United States’ World Cup team. Arguably the world’s most recognizable women’s soccer player, Morgan is a two-time U.S.. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year and four-time CONCACAF Player of the Year. Morgan has made 211 international appearances in her career, scoring 121 goals.The three Wave players will have an up-close view at two farewells. The Sept. 21 match in Cincinnati will be the last for midfielder Julie Ertz, while the Sept. 24 match in Chicago is the end of the line for forward Megan Rapinoe.
