In the past few hours, Johannesburg Water is claiming that its systems are improving, and that water is slowly flowing back into the city’s taps. This comes 10 days after dry taps for tens of thousands of people. Leading the programme today from Rand Water is Makenosi Maroo, who speaks for the entity.
First of all, welcome, and what is your understanding of the problem? Does it come down to a closed valve that was supposed to be open, as has been reported? So on 5 March we had an incident at the Eikenhof booster station. So some municipalities were affected because we could not pump water. So we did communicate with the affected municipalities, especially Johannesburg Water, that this is the incident, this is what happened, and this is how we’re dealing with it. Then we did restore power, City Power technicians were called on-site and power was restored, and then we also communicated that to the municipalitie
