Water from a water main break shoots up into the sky and onto a southeast Oak Cliff home on Thursday afternoon.Donald Campbell was shocked Thursday morning to look out his front door and find water shooting up more than 10 feet into the sky and onto his driveway.

For more than three hours, Campbell said, he did not hear from the city and did not see crews working to make repairs on what appeared to be a water main break. The water continued to rain down on his cars and the front of his house until shortly after 2:30 p.m., when city work crews stopped the water.Campbell said there had been a fire several houses away on the same street earlier on Thursday, and believes that the break could have stemmed from emergency crews working the fire.

The department is still investigating the cause of the fire and investigators believe the water main break is “separate from the fire,” Evans said in an email.
