Pennsylvania American Water put the order in place for its Mechanicsburg water system on Saturday when the company’s West Shore Water Treatment Plant was taken offline because of upstream contamination on the Yellow Breeches Creek.
Production was restored at the plant after acceptable test results and approval from the state Department of Environmental Protection.The Mechanicsburg water system includes parts of Silver Spring Township, Hampden Township, Lower Allen Township, Lemoyne Borough, Wormleysburg Borough, East Pennsboro Township, New Cumberland Borough, Fairview Township, Shiremanstown Borough, Camp Hill Borough and Newberry Township. Customers were asked to reduce their use by 10% to 15% on Saturday night. The company increased production at its Silver Spring Water Treatment Plant to help combat the issue.
