Watchung Deli, a Montclair institution known for its signature sandwiches, is making a comeback for a one-day pop-up event at Dan & Day's on March 3rd. Dan and Dayanna Campeas, owners of Dan & Day's, collaborated with the original owners, Robert and Jeanne Johannsen, to bring back beloved classics like 'The Angry Dwarf', 'The Ben Special', 'The Overload', and more.

Watchung Deli was a Montclair institution, a stalwart in a town known for food and a state known for sandwiches. But after nearly 100 years of serving Essex County, the deli, a Montclair burger joint owned by Dan and Dayanna Campeas, are holding a pop-up event on March 3 at which some of Watchung Deli ’s signature sandwiches will be served.
After Instagram post documenting the Johannsens’ visit to Dan & Day’s garnered twice as many likes as their typical photos, Campeas knew they needed to get the ball rolling on their collaboration. He didn’t want just a special. He wanted a whole day of Watchung Deli nostalgia. While the full plan hasn’t been sorted out yet, Campeas expects the sandwiches to be available for pre-order to assure they order the proper amount of supplies for the event — and to make sure everyone who wants to try the previously extinct sandwiches gets a chance.
