Watch the 2024 Mercedes AMG GT lay down rubber at the Nürburgring.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT is expected to borrow much of its design and underpinnings from the current Mercedes-AMG SL-Class. Though the cars shown here are heavily camouflaged, it's easy to see the similarities between the two. The biggest difference, of course, is the fixed roof.
Sharing its design with the SL also means a V-8 powertrain for the AMG GT. It doesn't take an audiophile to hear the eight-cylinder roar coming from these prototypes, a strong sign the GT might employ the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo unit found in the SL55 and SL63. Those cars have standard all-wheel-drive, though there's no way to tell at this time whether the GT will also get AWD as standard.
A full reveal for the AMG GT is likely still a few months off, though dynamic test mules like these are a good sign we aren't too far from seeing the car without any camouflage. Road & Track staff writer with a taste for high-mileage, rusted-out projects and amateur endurance racing.
