Saturday Night Live opened this week with a sketch on Fox & Friends dumping former President Donald Trump as a show guest after weaker-than-expected midterm elections for Republicans.
Mikey Day impersonated co-host Steve Doocy. Heidi Gardner played Ainsley Earhardt, and Bowen Yang played Brian Kilmeade. All three lamented what they cast as Trump's negative influence in the election outcomes, and Day held up a headline asking Gov. Ron DeSantis to be the"new daddy" to Eric Trump as a joke to prove"everybody's turning on Trump.
Then, James Austin Johnson showed up with his Trump impersonation, this time while wearing a tuxedo to reflect the fact that Trump's daughter Tiffany Trump had her wedding at Mar-a-Lago this weekend. Johnson alluded to Trump's allegation on Truth Social that he"fixed" DeSantis's 2018 campaign by sending in"the FBI and U.S. Attorneys," a claim that has been denied by officials.“Mr. President. I don’t know how to tell you this. But we have moved on.
“What? What did I do?” Johnson responded. “Was it the insurrection? The impeachments? Blackmailing Ukraine? Charlottesville? Didn't make wall? The murder? Kidding.” “It’s because you lost. Mr. President," Day said."We just don’t see a future with you. But we can still be friends."The sketch finished abruptly, attempting to cut off Johnson from reminding the public about his scheduled Tuesday announcement, which is widely expected to be when Trump declares a 2024 bid for president.
