WATCH: Protests against Charlie Kirk result in riot police and detainments

Turning Point USA think tank founder Charlie Kirk was met with protesters during his Wednesday appearance at the University of New Mexico.

Kirk captured his"welcoming committee" on campus in a video he shared on Twitter, which showed the barricades around the building where he was speaking that night. Protesters are heard chanting"f*** Charlie Kirk" and"get the f*** off our campus." Similar protests had led to other conservative speakers like Tomi Lahren and Ian Haworth getting their events canceled.

The event continued despite the protests. Kirk went on to refer to the protesters as"violent agitators,""lunatic [protesters]," and, sarcastically, his"adoring fans." At one point, he waved at them all from the balcony of the building where he was slated to speak, only to be met with more yelling and screaming. "Three individuals, one of whom was a student, were detained and issued court summons by UNM police, and left the UNM campus ," the university said in a statement."The charges are 'Interference with members of staff, public officials or the general public.'"The university made it clear that Kirk was invited to campus by a student group and his presence on campus did not constitute an endorsement from the university.
