The Ogden Fire Department responded to the fire on 22nd Street, between the blocks of Grant and Lincoln Ave., just before 5 p.m. on Saturday."The primary structure has burned to the ground," said Slater.
At one point, the fire spread to a nearby vacant building which was quickly extinguished."The embers have blown all the way to the west," said Slater.While on scene, crews assessed any potential damages within the block radius.Firefighters were not only battling the blaze but also facing frigid temperatures. Despite these challenges, Slater said multiple fire agencies remain determined to extinguish the flames. "Like I said, the men and women of Ogden Fire are tough. They signed up for this job, and they do it with a lot of pride and passion," Slater stated. A spokesperson for Rocky Mountain Power said they got a call from the Ogden Fire Department to de-energize lines in the area. The fire had a lot of black smoke, and black smoke can cause sparks. As a result, two substations were de-energized to ensure the safety of the surrounding area. Fire crews ask the public to avoid the area, as firefighters are still at work. Additionally, with the firefighters working in freezing temperatures, the roads are extremely slick.
