San Francisco police shot and killed a man after he allegedly drove his car onto the sidewalk and hit two pedestrians Thursday night, authorities said.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to the area of Kearny and Post streets around 6:30 p.m. after a car drove onto the sidewalk at a "high rate of speed" and hit two people. Police say the driver then continued toward a bicyclist before leaving the area. Just after 1:30 a.m. Friday, police say they found the suspect's car near Grant Avenue and Post Street.
Officers then set up a perimeter to find the suspect, and during an encounter with the man, an officer-involved shooting occurred, police said.Police say the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. Officers say they located a gun at the scene.According to police, the two pedestrians struck by the suspect's car suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not identified the man shot and killed by police.
