Bill Shorten will announce a reboot of the $3.4 billion National Disability Insurance Scheme when he addresses the National Press Club on Tuesday afternoon. Watch live on Sky News Australia from 12:30pm AEST.
In his address to the National Press Club, Mr Shorten will pledge to intensify the crackdown on fraud and unethical practices to weed out"shoddy therapies" that offer little to no value to participants.
He will reveal the number of fraud investigations underway by a special taskforce established to oversee $300 million in payments that are thought to be fraudulent. A special hotline set up to report NDIS fraud received 1,700 tip offs in March and almost 60 tip offs a day last month alone. "We must ensure that every dollar in the scheme gets to the people for whom the scheme was initially created," he will say.
