Chris Hani's killer approached the apex court after he was refused parole a number of times. Janusz Walus will finally get the parole he sought, the court ruled
"That history reveals that not only has the applicant served 28 years of imprisonment of his life imprisonment sentence, but he has also complied with all that the various ministers of correctional services, and the parole, have required of him to do," Zondo added.
"On a number of occasions, the applicant applied to the high court to challenge the various ministers’ decisions and he succeeded except for the one that is the subject of this judgment," Zondo said. Zondo said that the history of Walus' application for parole revealed that it took place as far back as 2011. The parole board recommended that he be released but the then-minister of justice rejected the recommendation.
