The Empire State Building in New York City was the obvious choice back in the 1930s. It remained the world's tallest building four decades after King Kong scaled it, carrying Fay Wray in the original RKO film. We estimate it took King Kong about one minute, 50 seconds to climb the iconic 1,275-foot building in the 1933 film – based on his time to scale the building's 200-foot mooring mast. What if he chose to climb the world's tallest building today? Kong would be 6,800 miles from New York in the United Arab Emirates. Assuming he didn't need to take any breaks, it would take him more than four minutes to scramble up 2,717-foot Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
