Warner Bros. has uploaded the 1984 buddy-cop action comedy 'City Heat' starring Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds to YouTube. Despite the star power, the film was a commercial and critical failure.

Despite their legendary status, Eastwood and Reynolds had never worked together before (and never did again) despite being linked by their early 1950s contract player status at Universal, where they were both famously fired by the same director on the same day. The production of City Heat, their only shared project, was marked by numerous challenges. Blake Edwards, known for classics like Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Pink Panther, wrote the script and was initially slated to direct. However, creative differences with Eastwood, who was by then a seasoned director himself, led to Edwards' dismissal during pre-production. Actor-director Richard Benjamin (The Money Pit) took over the helm. During filming, Reynolds suffered a jaw injury in an accident, requiring his jaw to be wired shut and resulting in a thirty-pound weight loss. Neither Eastwood nor Reynolds expressed satisfaction with the final product. Set in Kansas City during the Prohibition era of 1933, City Heat follows Speer (Eastwood), a strict lawman, and Mike Murphy (Reynolds), his former partner and friend who left the force to become a private detective. Murphy finds himself entangled in trouble when his current partner, Diehl Swift (Richard Roundtree), gets caught between two warring mobsters, Primo Pitt (Rip Torn) and Leon Coll (Tony Lo Bianco), both convinced that their illegal financial records have been stolen. Meanwhile, Speer is dating Murphy's secretary, Addy (Jane Alexander), while Murphy pursues socialite Caroline Howley (Madeline Kahn). Both gangs target Diehl's associate, torch singer Ginny Lee (Irene Cara). The story culminates in a dramatic showdown. Despite Warner Bros.' expectations of a box office hit propelled by the Eastwood/Reynolds pairing, City Heat only grossed $38 million against a $25 million budget, proving a substantial commercial disappointment. Critics were equally harsh, delivering some of the worst reviews of either Eastwood or Reynolds' careers. It currently holds a 22% Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. City Heat is now readily accessible for free viewing on YouTube.
