Cameraman working Yankees vs. Orioles gets beaned in head by overthrow: ‘So scary’
The game was delayed while the cameraman, identified by Kay as Pete Stendel, was attended to, placed on a stretcher and carted from the field as fans and players stood and applauded.
Kay said he was told the Stendel was alert and talking, and Stendel flashed a two-fingered peace sign as he was driven from the field and fans chanted, “MVP!”“That [peace sign] is so Pete,” said Kay, who appeared shaken by the injury to his friend and colleague. “Love that guy.” The Yankees had taken a 2-0 lead on the Orioles with a pair of runs in the inning on Josh Donaldson’s leadoff home run and Kyle Higashioka’s RBI single after the delay.“Best wishes for our friend, Pete Stendel, who was hit in the head by an errant throw at tonight’s Yankees game. Pete also works the roaming camera on our SNY broadcasts,”“Pete Stendel is excellent at what he does. Hoping he is safe.
